Black WWI Vet I Awarded Purple Heart
WWI Veteran, LeRoy Johnston, will posthumously be awarded the Purple Heart for his service in WWI. Almost 100 years ago, his military records were altered so that he wouldn't receive the medals and decorations he earned. After convalescing from the war, Johnston went on an annual hunting trip with his brothers near Elaine. After their trip, he along with his brothers were murdered during the massacre.
