The Elaine Lee Street Community Center
invites you to a service of remembrance
and renewal at 2 PM on Saturday,
September 28, at Turning Point Park,
110 Main Street, Elaine, AR
That date is two days before the centennial of the violence
that resulted in the death of over 200 African Americans.
Turning Point Park honors Scipio Africanus Jones, who was born a slave
and became the lawyer who saved the Elaine Twelve and led a case that
redefined the 14th Amendment, giving due process to all Americans.
A descendant of one of the Elaine 12 and a descendant of a participant
in the killing will be honored for their authentic reconciliation.
Following the program, attendees may find a ribbon closely matching
their skin colors. Two people with different colors will tie them
together on our “Together Tree.”
While wandering the park to read signage,
be sure to pick up specialty cookies and drinks,
and play some musical instruments.
This service is appropriate for children, but children may only attend only with an adult.
The time for children’s activities that weekend will be announced.
